The Qld Govt is considering VAD. This will have impacts on the Uniting Church's hospitals and Nursing homes. With this in mind the Church instituted a consultation process over this issue earlier in the year. The consultation document was very well put together. I want to thank members of the RUC community that put in submissions.
The final report and recommendations - to be considered at Synod - is now available. I must say, in all my years with the Uniting Church this is the best consultation report I can remember. The document fairly sums up responses, frames everything Biblically and theologically, and brings the majority option to the Synod, that the Qld UC should not support VAD in it's institutions, but we should have compassion and care on anyone in our sphere who does choose this option. It is well worth a read.
If you have been following the details of the Assembly decision on marriage you will note that it is now 6 months since the decision. Here is a Pastoral Letter from the President on where things are at.
The Queensland Government is currently considering the legality of assisted dying in the State of Qld. The Uniting Church, as a large provider of hospital and aged care, would like to speak into this space. They also need to prepare for all possibilities given we are a large provider of aged care. The church is undertaking a consultation of its members. If you are interested in this reading about the issue and making a submission, please following the link. There is an information session at Chermside Uniting on Feb 18. Submissions are due March 9
